A Perfect Day in Dumbo, Brooklyn: 12 Hour Guide
A PERFECT DAY IN DUMBO
Two of my favorite ways to get to Dumbo is 1. the iconic walk over the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan or 2. via the NYC Ferry. Easiest way to plan your route and buy ferry tickets is by downloading the NYC Ferry app. Try and get to Dumbo before 10 a.m. so you can walk south and start your day from Pier 6. If you drive, you can park at City Parking located in One Brooklyn Bridge Park. And if you have a furry one, you can give them a head start on the fun at the Pier 6 Dog Run. Grab a coffee for the walk at either Kaigo Coffee Room or Ebb & Flow Bakery (don’t forget the double chocolate flourless cookie if you go here).
Walk or bike from Pier 6 to the heart of Dumbo on The Greenway. It’s only about a 20 minute walk, but you’ll definitely want to stop along the way for photos.
Walk around Dumbo’s charming cobblestone streets and get to know the neighborhood. There are dozens of coffee shops, retail stores, art galleries and bookstores waiting to be discovered around every corner. Pay a visit to the famous Jane’s Carousel, but make sure to check if it’s open first here if you want to ride. Before you go, go ahead and get one for the gram at the intersection of Washington Street and Water Street. It’s the spot near the waterfront where every tourist (and local trying to be a tourist) will be taking photos with the Brooklyn Bridge in the backdrop - yes, I’m guilty.
Make your way to lunch at Luke’s Lobster located at 11 Water Street. You can’t go wrong with the lobster roll and clam chowder combo. Take your to-go lunch over to the tables right outside the Time Out Market for a casual outdoor dining experience.
Spend your afternoon exploring Brooklyn Bridge Park which offers an endless amount of activities from multiple lawns to relax on, picnic areas, playgrounds, gardens, events and more.
Head to award-winning Gran Electrica for Mexican in the oldest commercial building in all of Brooklyn located at 5 Front Street. Make a reservation prior by calling 718-852-2700 or through Resy. You can’t miss a seat in the backyard which is tucked under the Brooklyn Bridge!
