HOW DID I GET TO PARADISE?

I landed in Medellín (MDE) where I stayed a couple of nights before boarding a quick 30 minute charter flight to the town of Nuquí, located in an area called Chocó Department. This is the western part of Colombia between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Majestic mountain ranges eventually gave way to lush jungle and sea. After landing in Nuquí, a boat transfer service organized by Morromico whisked us away and so began the adventure of a lifetime.

Grupo San German Express is Morromico’s charter company of choice.

BIENVENIDO A MORROMICO

After a 45 minute boat ride along the Pacific coast, we arrived in Morromico, located in the Gulf of Tribuga. For miles and miles, there’s nothing surrounding this pristine paradise except the jungle and ocean waves. The Montoya family (owners of Morromico) and their staff, greeted us with a warm Colombian welcome and invited us into their newly renovated three-story rustic main house. It has three rooms with double and single beds in each. There’s also a private bungalow right off of the main house, which is where I stayed. And yes, they all have hammocks too (because have you ever tried to imagine paradise without them?). That’s all the space dedicated to guests, which makes Morromico a truly intimate experience. There’s also no internet or TV, which probably makes it one of the few places left on earth where you can truly “disconnect”.

PETS OF MORROMICO

One of the best parts of staying in Morromico is cuddling up with the Montoya’s pets. Even Cleo, a now domesticated bird, will come and hang out with you.

THE FOOD ALONE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

(I’m serious)

From fresh fish and fruit, to plantains and coconut rice, every meal was memorable. And not just because of how delicious they were, but also because we all gathered around the dining room table and shared meaningful conversation (the kind you don’t always get when you have your cell phone on the table).

THINGS TO DO IN & AROUND MORROMICO

I only had 5 days in Morromico, but during that time I did take two day trips. However, there are many more activities to do including whale watching between July and September!

DAY TRIP TO UTRIA NATIONAL PARK

Walk into the rainforest and around mangroves and you’ll experience some of the best things nature has to offer.

Natural hot springs where you can enjoy a self-made sulfur mask treatment while you relax. Stay the day and walk around this quiet little community full of charm, colorful flowers and beautiful people.

hike the beaches & jungle

With the beach and the jungle as your playground, there are plenty of hikes that could fill your days. Morromico can organize these for you as part of your stay. In my opinion, some of the best walks are right on the grounds of Morromico.

My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature.
