Vang Vieng, Laos

When planning a trip, it’s easy to default to well-known destinations, like the ones that dominate social media. But sometimes, the most rewarding experiences come from places we never expected. While they may not always make the top of every traveler’s list, these underrated destinations offer incredible landscapes, rich cultures, and fewer crowds, making them just as, if not more, memorable than their famous counterparts.

Based on my travels and the experiences of friends, I’ve put together a list of seven places that I think deserve your attention. Whether you’re looking for adventure, authentic local experiences, or untouched natural beauty, these hidden gems are worth adding to your radar.

Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.
