Jetsetter Essentials: The Top 10 Travel Things I Can't Live Without

As a passionate traveler, I've learned that the key to seamless and enjoyable travel lies in the careful selection of the essentials you choose. Like many lessons, mine have often come from uncomfortable experiences that I promised myself I’d try to minimize - and trust me, there have been many, usually in remote places where solutions are hard to come by. So, through the highs and lows of travel over many years, I've curated a collection of must-have items that I truly can’t live without. In this blog post, I'm excited to share the top 10 things that have become my indispensable companions throughout my travels.

(Wine is a given my book, so it’s not included in this list :)

(Note: This post is not sponsored. Each featured item has been purchased and used by me (one gifted by a friend), earning a spot on this list through my own experiences. I hope you find it useful. Happy travels!)

MY TRAVEL ESSENTIALS

#1: AWAY Carry On Suitcase

Unless I’m going away for more than two weeks, I make it a point to pack a carry-on suitcase only, even if I choose to check it on the way home. Why? I’ve either lost or had to wait for a checked bag at my destination (usually a super far one too). To me, it’s not worth taking the chance anymore. Plus, I’ve finally learned how to properly pack a wardrobe capsule that no longer requires the extra space of a larger suitcase. (By the way, I’m thinking of writing a blog post on that too ;)

My personal favorite carry-on is the AWAY Carry On Suitcase because it's both stylish and functional. I love its minimalist design, durable shell, well-thought-out compartments, and, above all, its built-in USB charger. (Note: Remember to remove the portable USB charger if you opt to check it.) This suitcase has been my #1 companion on both short trips and extended getaways.

#2: Incase ICON Lite Pack Backpack

A few years back, I made the choice to swap out my large purse for the ICON Lite Pack Backpack, which became my go-to “personal item”. It’s proven to be more comfortable and versatile for the things I often carry like my laptop and camera, while still being stylish (for a backpack). The dedicated laptop compartment is my favorite feature, although Incase has newer and larger backpack options which even more to offer.

#3: REI Co-op Roadtripper 60 Duffel

Let’s be honest, we don’t usually come back with the same number of things we packed for our trip. I like having peace of mind knowing that I’ll have the flexibility to return with souvenirs or a dedicated bag for laundry that I can effortlessly check in or carry on the plane with me. The REI Co-op Roadtripper 60 Duffel, which also doubles as my weekend bag, is a foldable and easily packable bag that has proven durable enough to withstand airport check-ins.

#4: Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag

A friend gifted me the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag, and it changed my life. I’m not sure why I hadn’t embraced the belt bag era sooner, but i t’s been a total game-changer, especially when I travel. It’s my trusty companion with enough room for essentials like my phone, wallet, and keys, while keeping everything secure and close within reach. No matter where I’m traveling to, whether it’s another continent or the grocery store, I find myself choosing my belt bag over a purse.

#5: Apple AirTag

I’ve found that attaching the Apple AirTag to my suitcase whenever I do check it has been the best solution for tracking my suitcase (along with other things, ahem keys). It gives me one less thing to worry about during my travels, so why not use it?

#6: Flight 001 Travel Emergency Blanket

Ok, anytime I’m cold is an emergency. Even when airlines provide blankets, we all know they’re not the warmest. The Flight 001 Travel Emergency Blanket was a cozy addition to my travel essentials a few years back, and it's provided me with warmth on those chilly flights and beyond.

#7: Nitecore Ultra-Slim Battery Pack

In addition to the battery pack integrated into my AWAY suitcase, I like to carry an extra slim battery pack that easily fits in my belt bag. The Nitecore Ultra-Slim Battery Pack has proven to be a reliable source of energy for my phone and other gadgets on long travel days or day trips. I strongly recommend investing in a portable battery pack you can take with you on all your travels near and far.

#8: Rainleaf Microfiber Towel

You’d be surprised at how often having your own towel can be a lifesaver while traveling. The Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is lightweight,  easily packable, and dries quickly. It’s a staple in my suitcase every time I travel.

#9: MYCARBON Digital Luggage Scale

The struggle of shifting weight between bags is real! So I now carry a small portable digital scale. The MYCARBON Digital Luggage Scale is easy to use and has become a must-have travel tool for a more stress-free trip. No more being over by .5 lbs for me.

#10: MUJI’s Passport Memo Stationery Notebook

Last but not least, the humble field notebook is a newer companion on my journeys. Whether I'm jotting down travel memories or future recommendations for a blog post, a pocket-sized notebook is perfect for capturing my thoughts the old-school way, which I’ve found to be more enjoyable than a digital note in my phone. I like using MUJI’s Passport Memo. You can’t beat it at $1.90.

Traveling is never perfect, so having the right tools can significantly set you up for the best experience possible. My top 10 travel things, from luggage to gadgets and practical accessories, have proven indispensable to me time and time again. Being well-prepared with the right essentials definitely has made my travels happier. I hope you found my list helpful and hopefully it sparks ideas on how to bring a little more joy to your next trip!
